Solid Waste Management
Lyons has been recycling for over 20 years and continues to research and implement new programs on a regular basis and has seen tangible results for these efforts.
Lyons recognizes the need to protect human health and the environment by sustainably managing our water waste stream and reducing the amount of Biochemical Oxygen Demand (B.O.D.’s). Byproducts from production are repurposed as livestock feed instead of discharged through the waste lines - turning waste product into a useful, sustainable commodity.
Lyons has programs in place to measure, monitor and reduce our energy use and the related
greenhouse gas emissions.
Lyons works closely with our packaging vendors to develop and use lightweight, recycled, recyclable, biodegradable and/or compostable materials. Approximately 90% of our product packaging is recyclable and/or made from recycled material.
Lyons transports its products as efficiently as possible by structuring pallet loads, improving routes and maintaining truck and rail shipments averaging 97% or higher in capacity. This directly reduces fuel use, greenhouse gas emissions and negative impacts on air quality.
